Birthdays

So today I celebrated my birthday and I started to think how this annual event has changed over the years with…you guessed it, Technology.

To plan one’s birthday, Mom or Dad would mail invitations or you’d hand them out at school, then as you got older you called people (hopefully from your own phoneline), then email made it easier to reach everyone at once, then evite.com let you personalize your own layout (and you could see who viewed your invite, which I think is one of thee best sneeky features ever invented) and now the current medium (for me at least) is Facebook.

Even getting to the party has changed: you double check the invite on your Facebook app, you look up the address on your phone map, and the doorbuzzer is attached to a cell phone. The music (bpm.tv Euromix) was played off a PVR and lots of photos and videos were taken that are now on Facebook by mobile upload.

My gifts ranged from:

  • the book What It Is (it’s for creative writing)
  • a remote control truck (A Hummer Hx), the most fuel efficent Hummer since it runs on a 9v and 4AA batteries.
  • And some good ole cash to put towards my new Sony T500 (which records in 720P HD).

But like anything, a good party is made up of good people and a liter of tequila.
